The day to overdose on chocolates and take in the sweet aroma of roses, tulips or whatever sweet shenanigans your man decides to throw your way on Valentine’s Day.
Whether you are single, in a relationship, or married, one thing that everyone has in common is that we love to love. Why? Other than the fact that we are human and yearn for fulfillment we also have been raised to know it is the norm in our society. Without love, our world would be a very different place. Perhaps, that is why the world is changing into an environment where war is a commonality when the nightly news consists of tragic stories and events. If everyone took the time to love a little more and give a little more than they receive, things would take a turn for the better.
Randy Pausch once said, “When we’re connected to others, we become better people.” Sure there are other things that make people happy, but feeling loved by family, friends, or your significant other trumps them all. You could be wealthy, have everything you ever wanted but still be unsatisfied because at the end of the day, what really matters is whom you’re sharing your life with. If you are unable to say, “I love you” to anyone in your life, then my friend, you’re missing out.
Psychological studies have found that those who have the least tend to give the most. There are several explanations as to why, but the number one reason is because those who have less tend to show greater feelings of compassion towards others.
This goes to show that material possessions do not play a major role in obtaining happiness in life. Your overall well-being, peace of mind, and contentment comes from giving back.
One of the best feelings is when you can hear a smile in someone’s voice and know it’s because of something you said or did.
Real connections with people you love never go away even if the relationship dissolves because you will always have the memories and it’s those small recollection that make life exciting and fun to live and eager for people to invest their time.
Love really makes the world go round because what goes around does come back around. For it is the people who make you laugh a bit harder and smile a bit brighter that make life a little bit sweeter. So, no matter what your relationship status is this upcoming Valentine’s Day loving yourself really is the most important thing you can do.
The love you have for yourself is the same type of love you can then pour into someone else’s life. And what better gift is that on Valentine’s Day.
